The Goal of Education
Education has long operated from a pedagogical paradigm that is subject based and teacher focused. The focus has often been on “covering the subject” and providing instruction as the end. In that paradigm, the mission of education is understood as that which provides instruction through a curriculum. Classes are filled with students where teachers lecture and teach. In recent years that focus has been challenged and a new shift has been made. There is a resurgence of focus on the learner. MHGS degree programs and are designed to reflect this shift and to return to the ancient goal for education: student learning.

Our learning outcomes are based on the premise that formation is the central task of education.  A holistic understanding of the individual lies at the center of our academic endeavors and student life programming.  Our primary goal is to develop the soul, the mind, and body and to graduate persons who, through this intentional process of formation, engage in life-long learning, personal and spiritual growth and meaningful citizenship.  Our objective is to develop a community of learners who will embody the sacred texts and reflect the presence of Christ in the world.
