This class will address the development of a biblical theology of sexual eroticism from the vantage point of the book Song of Solomon. Special emphasis will be placed on addressing the sexual issues faced by participants who live in a sexually casual and charged culture in order to develop strategies for exploring those issues in a therapeutic context.

• Attendee will be able to compare the uniqueness of the sexual ethic of the Bible compared to other Ancient Near Eastern Cultures
• Attendee will assess the major factors in the development of the Church’s view of sexuality
• Attendee will be aware of the current research trends about sexual practice in College age students
• Attendee will articulate their core convictions on sexuality
• Attendee will consider the role of gender in the experience of eroticism
• Attendee will develop an understanding of how to address sexual issues in the therapeutic process

Tremper Longman III (PhD, Yale University) is the Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies and the chair of the Religious Studies department at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, where he lives with his wife, Alice. He is the Old Testament editor for the revised Expositor's Bible Commentary and has authored many articles and books on the Psalms and other Old Testament books.
